Getting There and Away:

Bristol Airport to Bristol Floating Harbour:

Taxi: £35 (Uber, VCars, Ola)

The Grand Tour:

New Arrivals: Whether arriving in the city by bus or taxi visitors can start their tour at Castle Park in the city centre. Built after the high street was destroyed during WW2, castle park is now a lovely place to wander and relax. Enjoy the Bristol vibe with community vegetable patches - a mini paradise in the urban sprawl.

Pit Stop: Next stop is St Nicholas market where you can grab a bite to eat. Everything from coffee and cake, to a plate of soul warming tagine is available in this old Victorian market.

Cultural injection: The Bristol Museum and art gallery is in the heart of the city. On route take stock of the street art, made famous by the internationally renowned Banksy. His mural "love cheat" can be seen on the right as you walk up the hill to the museum. The museum has seasonal exhibits supported by a wonderful natural history and art departments. Free entry.

Awe-inspiring: Known for it's hills the climb up to the city's Clifton Suspension Bridge is well worth the effort. This iconic piece of engineering gives visitors a great view down the river Avon. Many travellers and adventures of times gone by have sailed beneath this bridge, trading goods from far off lands.

Escape to nature: If you legs still have something to give then keep heading out of the city to the beautiful Ashton Court Estate Deer Park, the country house and it's grounds provide some excellent woods and trails, giving you a real piece of the British Countryside. If your feet can't handle it try hoping on one of the city Yo Bikes (https://yobike.com) or skip the deer park all together opting for a leisurely stroll back into town along the river and floating harbour.

If you really need a rest jump aboard one of the water taxis and put your feet up. (https://www.bristolferry.com/)

An evening to remember: There are plenty of eateries around the city centre, but one of the best places for choice and atmosphere is Whapping Wharf. Made out of old shipping containers 'The Crates' offer an eclectic mix of food choice, from fish and chips to tapas there is something to suit most tastes. Some places do book up fast so if formal seating is more your speed be sure to book in advance.

Still have time for one more west country cider? Bristol is buzzing with live music venues - The Old Duke pub on King Street is buzzing with live Jazz most nights of the week. Head on over and finish your day in style.

About Me

I've been a backpacker, holiday maker and business traveller, stranded unexpectedly in strange and amazing places for annoyingly small windows of time, so I started to research and write about ways to make the most of these opportunities. This blog is for all of those out there who like me never want to find themselves stood still.
